The problem
Below are some findings from a survey commissioned by the Driving Standards Agency, (DSA), Generally the survey found that there was a shortage of qualifications and industry experience to pass on to students and that there was a need to raise the standard of instruction. “Raising the standards of approved driving instructors” (No.15) 75% of ADIs have no other relevant qualification 93% were not currently (at the time of survey) undertaking further training 76% had not taken further training within the past 5 years 43% of ADIs are not members of a representative body or association. Other findings were:Only 2% of ADIs employ other ADIs. 88% do not specialise in any sector of the L-driver market. CPD will enter the life of the ADI and most certainly into the qualifying processes to become an ADI. The DSA are committed to introducing CPD as soon as is practically possible. As driving instructors we have to be careful not bury our heads in the sand and pretend that CPD won’t effect us….because it will, and for the better!
