The most common definition of
Life Coaching is helping people get from where they are in their life to
where they want to go. Whether to a greater degree of competence or level of
fulfilment.
However the life coach not only has to understand where the person wants to go
but what obstacles there are preventing them from getting there.
I have used life coaching in my business for nearly 8 years.
During this time I found that life coaching was the only effective way to
deal with obstacles and barriers that arose during my students training. I have seen some remarkable life changes just
through some of the simplest of decisions to overcome or breakthrough
barriers.
Some of the obstacles to change and progress were attitudes, perceptions,
world views, prejudices, dreams, ambitions, disappointments and countless
other areas which are sometimes difficult to bring to the table. It's just
these types of barriers that make us the people we are and how we respond to
life.
Life Coaching cannot make you
happy, it cannot make you richer or wiser. It cannot make you a better and a
more fulfilled person. In fact Life Coaching cannot help you at all.
It's our responses to Life Coaching that makes the real difference and
brings about change!
A life coach does not need to be an expert in
your profession or know everything about your life to be able to encourage
change.
A life coach does not necessarily need have to have bags full of
qualifications, but a life coach does need to want to bring clarity for
people wanting and needing to take responsibility for their own actions and
decisions and to take control of their lives.
A life coach endeavours to bring out the
adult in us and not the child.
Getting to where you want to go is not always
going to be straightforward but Life Coaching can help you not only
understand the path you have to take but also have the courage to take it!
